Kampala, Uganda– On June 21st, 2024, the Association of Refugees with Disability (ARD) joined Refugee-Led Organizations Network (RELON) and other Refugee-led organizations to commemorate World Refugee Day with a vibrant and inclusive gala. In a remarkable annual general meeting, on Thursday 7 December 2023 we spotlighted inspiring stories of resilience and triumph brought within refugees with disabilities in Uganda. The Executive Director, Muombamungu James took centre stage, confidently unravelling the annual report in an attentional presentation that outlined the organization's milestones and future endeavours. Every year, on June 20, the world celebrates refugees across the globe on World Refugee Day. Yet many events are organized without meaningful participation from the refugee communities themselves. We changed this and hosted a refugee-led World Refugee Day in 2022, uniting refugee groups from the DR Congo, Rwanda, Somalia, Burundi, South Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and our Uganda hosts for a community-driven event highlighting the resilience and agency of refugees to lead the way.
